Raising a Confident Child
There comes a time when your child must learn to stand alone. As parents, we have to step back, offering encouragement and tips from the sidelines as they learn to keep their balance and gradually gain the confidence to walk, then to run!
In the bigger picture, this is what raising a child is all about - being there to offer praise and an occasional helping hand while they gain the self assurance that will carry them through life, and recognizing each success along the way.
Do not allow anyone tell your child they can't achieve a goal. Back them up and find a way to help them make it happen. Believe in your children until they learn to believe in themselves! Tell them that you know they can succeed and they will prove you right.
A child's confidence is manifested in their ability to say 'yes' to new things and experiences, and 'no' to bad ideas or bullies. Letting them take that step and encouraging them to trust their instincts is a vital step in helping your children grow into confident adults.
We all want our children be successful in life - raising them to be confident is vital to this goal. Teach your children to trust their own judgment and they will be sure to grow into confident adults, unafraid to step up and take on the unknown.
Praise your child, for small accomplishments as well as big ones! Ask for the best performance they can give, don't let them be satisfied with less. Remember to congratulate them on every job well done and offer encouragement and advice if they need to improve. Point out when they show courage, even in the small things. Trying something new with a possibility of ridicule is confidence at work.
Instilling confidence in our children starts very early on and continues for life. We will always be the first one they look at for cues on how to live their lives, and by showing confidence in ourselves as well as in them, we lay the foundation for our children to build a happy and successful life on!
